Business Portfolio Assessment
This Fortune 500 Company had become large and revenue growth had plateaued at a 4% level. The challenge was to move this growth rate to 6-7% consistently. With market and financial analytics, we were able to develop 3-4 options to either spin out, shut down, or divest certain business units in order to free up investment to either acquire or develop markets/products in higher growth areas resulting in lifting the overall Company growth rate.
Improve Support Function Efficiency
This Fortune 500 Company Business Unit was the lowest operating profit performer in the Company. With cost analysis and comparison to competition, we were able to provide options and financial analytics to reduce the supporting cost structure by a combination of automation, reducing work processes, centralization, outsourcing, leveraging purchasing power through negotiation and automation tools, and reducing real estate footprint. This resulted in significant annual savings to re-invest in new product development driving revenue growth.
Finance Function Effectiveness & Talent Development
This medium-sized company's Finance function focused on the basics of Controllership, General Accounting, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable. They also provided support for annual budgeting. They did not provide Financial Planning, & Analysis, financial analytics, or business partnership support for the business units. The Finance talent was focused on their current roles and opportunities for development were limited resulting in a high level of turnover. We evaluated the Finance cost structure and proposed options to reduce the cost allocated to General Accounting, Accounts Receivable and Payables through automation and process improvement. This freed up expenses was then allocated to creating a small business support team to add business analytics and business partnership to the business unit leaders. We also created a job rotation process to develop the Finance talent resulting in a succession plan. We also provided coaching and mentorship to a few high potential Finance talent to assist them in moving into the business partnership support role. A win for the function and business for no additional ongoing business cost.
